VB Police arrest a man for stealing from unlocked cars in an Ocean Lakes neighborhood

A man in Virginia Beach is in jail tonight, accused of taking things out of unlocked cars.

Officials tell us that if it weren't for a very observant police officer, 18-year-old Ryan Ross might not have been caught.

Speaking from behind bars, Ryan admits he stole from Virginia Beach residents, but he also places the blame on them.

When asked if he feels any remorse, he says, "I mean, not really. They should keep their doors locked at night."

Virginia Beach Police spokesperson, Adam Bernstein says a patrol officer spotted Ryan riding his bike carrying backpacks early this morning in an Ocean Lakes neighborhood.

It was during this stop when investigators found hundreds of dollars worth of stolen items inside the backpacks including several iPods and a laptop.

"All too often we hear stories of people who leave their cars unlocked and in most cases they don't see their items ever again. But with this case, with good police work, we were able to make an arrest," Bernstein says.

Ryan tells NewsChannel 3 he stole the items to make a quick buck and for the thrill. Neighbors in the Ocean Lakes neighborhood are not buying it.

John, a resident of the neighborhood says, "I mean, if somebody's going to have sticky fingers and wants to take from other people, they certainly have no right being out here on the streets."

Ryan has been charged with grand larceny and tampering with cars.

He's being held without bond in jail and isn't offering up any apologies to his victims.
