Third Annual JT Walk and Beach Party Expected to Draw Thousands

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – October 1, 2010 – The 3rd Annual JT Walk & Beach Party will be held this Sunday beginning at 9:00 am on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk.  Last year’s event drew more than 8,000 and raised more than $2 million for its beneficiaries which include ALS Association, DC/MD/VA Chapter, JT’s Grommet Island Beach Park and research grants in the fields of ALS and other neuromuscular diseases. 

The highlight of the event is the JT Walk & Beach Party itself which starts with a walk from Neptune’s Park on 31st Street to Grommet Island at the end of the Boardwalk and return to Neptune’s Park.  Following the walk, participants will enjoy a number of activities including a huge beach party featuring top area entertainment, food and beverages and many children’s activities.  Bands this year include Destined Nation, Cheap Thrills, Carbon Jam, Right On Band and Butter.  Food will be provided by Qdoba Mexi

ALS Walk Kick-off Party

Come out to Side Street Cantina this Friday for an evening of Fun and Fundraising!

Starting at 6 p.m. 10% of food proceeds will go to the ALS Association. Plenty of drink specials all night long! Prize giveaways will be ongoing as well as a raffle for Oakley Sunglasses, Arnette sunglasses, skull candy headphones, and a Lost Surfboard.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance or the night of the party. You do not need to be in attendance to win the surfboard.

Time: Friday, October 1, at 6:00 p.m. - Saturday at 2:00 a.m.

Event: Party for Pleasure House Point

MAKE YOUR POINT, a community event to raise awareness about and funds for preserving Pleasure House Point, will take place on Saturday, October 9, 2010 from 1 to 5 PM on Marlin Bay Drive in Virginia Beach. 

Live entertainment, educational exhibits, merchandise and food vendors will be the attractions at this family-friendly occasion. 

Admission is free, but attendees are urged to give generously to the Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation Foundation, a not-for-profit 501[c](3) organization, to help save Pleasure House Point as a natural area to be enjoyed for generations to come.  Time is short for saving Pleasure House Point from development, so be sure to show up and MAKE YOUR POINT.

Sensible Seafood Fest at the Virginia Aquarium

Virginia Beach, VA - Presented by the Virginia Aquarium and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation is the first Sensible Seafood Fest: A Celebration of Sustainable Foods, Thursday, September 30, 6 p.m.

Lake Edwards Community Basketball Tournament Opening Day

Virginia Beach, VA (September 16, 2010) –  Seton Youth Shelters new outreach program, the Lake Edwards Community Basketball Tournament will kick-off this Sunday, September 19 at 2pm at the Lake Edwards Basketball Courts. Mayor Sessoms will provide opening words followed by Pastor Daniels from Enoch Baptist Church. 

The tournament will begin Sunday, September 19 and will end Wednesday, October 20. Games will be held every Sunday 2:00pm-5:00pm and every Wednesday 5:30-7:30pm at the Lake Edwards Basketball Courts. Seton Youth Shelters is launching this new program to provide youth ages 7-17 in the Lake Edwards Community with opportunities to constructively use recreational time through structured athletic activities, access to adult role models and community empowerment.

Blue Gypsy Bluesfest for Habitat for Humanity

Virginia Beach, VA, September 6, 2010 -- The first annual Blue Gypsy Bluesfest featuring top local blues bands, Bobby “BlackHat” Walters, Jackie Scott & The Housewreckers and The Michael Clark Band, takes place Saturday September 25, from noon-5 pm at Hunt Club Farm, 2388 London Bridge Road.  The event includes the BBQ styling of local restaurants Mick’s Too, Mojo Bones, Jake’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que, Big Knife Cooking and Smokey Bones.  The net proceeds go to two local charities, Habitat For Humanity South Hampton Roads, and the Natchel’ Blues Network supporting the preservation of the Blues in Hampton Roads for over 25 years.
