Power Outage Update from Dominion Virginia Power | News
Update from Dominion Virginia Power, 8 AM:
As of 7:30 a.m., about 270,000 customers are without power in Hampton Roads/Northern N.C.
More than 100,000 were restored overnight.
Out of 1.2 million customers affected by Hurricane Irene in Virginia and Northern NC; 577,000 are from our area. 468,000 in Hampton Roads and 109,000 in NC.
Given the extent of damage, Dominion Virginia Power has brought in additional resources to help with clearing trees off lines and restoring power. We now have more than 6,000 line and support personnel, either on the ground working or en route. We will have almost 1,100 bucket trucks across Virginia and North Carolina.
For customers evacuated before the storm, who may be returning home, assume all downed lines are energized and call us immediately to report. Never attempt to remove trees, branches or anything else touching or near a line. Our toll-free outage hotline 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357).
There's been speculation regarding the length of this effort, and we thank customers for being so patient while we've been working to complete the damage assessment.
By noon, new information will be released about estimated restoration times and comparisons to Hurricane Isabel.
